A full day event titled “re-BURN of Sarajevo skate park“ marked the opening of the reconstructed Hastahana skate park in Sarajevo. New possibilities opened up for skateboarders, roller skaters and similar sports fans to practice their skills. The project refurbished the existing ramps and added two new ones so now the skate park meets the requirements necessary to host regional competitions.
″It is very important that Coca‑Cola in Bosnia and Herzegovina recognised our long term engagement in promotion of these activities and the importance of this park to the young people and community. The reconstruction and upgrades to the existing skate park allowed us, for the first time, to host a regional competition″, stated Isa El Ali, initiator of the project.
The contest, organised as part of the opening ceremony, had some recognised names from the regional scene, competitors from Austria, Slovenia, Croatia, Serbia, and Bosnia and Herzegovina, the special attraction being Tin Hadžiomerspahić from Zagreb, the Balkan champion roller skater of 2010, who directly qualified to the world championship finals.
″This project gave the capital of BiH its own venue for rolling and similar sports, providing the youth with a space for active and creative activities″, stated Alma Šahbaz, Public Relations Manager for Coca‑Cola HBC B-H. “It is our wish to contribute to the promotion of an active lifestyle and the quality of life for our youth and our entire community, but also to support these sports enthusiasts in their efforts to promote Bosnia and Herzegovina and Sarajevo as a skate centre.”
An interesting programme attracted 350 of participants and visitors, with a guest appearance by Nemo, the legend of the Sarajevo graffiti scene, who made graffiti performance with his crew by decorating one of the skate park walls.
″At the moment we have seventy active skaters, rollers, bmx-ers, freestyle mountain bikers and free runners regularly spending time at the skate park. We aim to include as many young people as we can and to make Sarajevo an important destination on the skate scene map. The refurbishment of the skate park and the upgrades will make that goal much easier to achieve″, added El Ali.
