By participating in the traditional cycling event on the streets of Sarajevo, more than 1,500 people demonstrated the importance of physical activity using bicycles as an alternative mean of transportation while pointing out the need for constructing bicycle paths.

Giro di Sarajevo, the traditional cycling event, organised on Sunday 2 September, gathered the greatest number of participants - fans of a healthy and active lifestyle - so far, and became the most popular event of its kind in Bosnia and Herzegovina.

The event was organised by the association Giro di Sarajevo and the City of Sarajevo administration in partnership with Coca‑Cola HBC B-H.

Harun Šmrković, the president of the association Giro di Sarajevo said, ''Such a large number of participants shows that we brought the bicycling sport in Sarajevo at an enviable level. The number of bicyclists is increasing every day, more and more of them participate in the traffic and they act in a much more responsible manner. We only lack bicycle paths in order for the city to be truly European''.

Alma Šahbaz, Communications and Community Relations Manager of Coca‑Cola HBC B-H, said ''We are glad that 1500 bicyclists, with the support of
Coca‑Cola HBC B-H, by cycling in the streets of the city of Sarajevo, promoted tolerance among all participants in the traffic and the use of bicycle as a cost-effective and healthy mean of transport. We are particularly glad that the number of participants is twice as high as compared to last year, and that there are also many employees of our company among them''.

The gathering and registration of participants of the Giro di Sarajevo started at 15:00 h in Dobrinja, in front of the ''Skender Kulenović'' school. The cycling started at 17:00 h, and bicyclists took the main Sarajevo road towards the city hall “Vijećnica”, towards the finish on Vilsonovo promenade. The 16 km bicycle route was closed for car traffic and secured by the Sarajevo Canton traffic police.

With the aim of strengthening and promoting the importance of physical activities and care for health, Coca‑Cola HBC B-H and the association Giro di Sarajevo, in addition to the special silicone bracelet, ensured refreshments for the participants – a bottle of Olimpija water at the start and Burn energy drink at the finish, and for the luckiest ones also some gifts – 15 bicycle helmets and three bicycles. The gifts were distributed by drawing registration numbers during the DJ party organised at the end of the event.

By partnering with the City of Sarajevo Administration and the associations Giro di Sarajevo and Sarajevo Marathon on two major events promoting active lifestyle, Coca‑Cola HBC B-H celebrates the European Car Free Day and contributes to environmental protection awareness rising.
